Synopsis of Class
|
In the past few years of teaching people how to tie various
flies there are a few things that seem to stand out for
everyone as techniques that are hard to master or
understand. Dubbing fly bodies is one of them.
In it's simplest form, dubbing is simply the process of
applying material to the tying thread and wrapping it around
the shank of the fly in order to create a body for the
finished fly. The material applied can vary from fur,
feathers or synthetic and can be very fine to very coarse.
There are also about as many ways of creating the dubbing
and applying it as there are materials for making it.
This is where the confusion comes in.
In this class we will be focusing on techniques for creating
and applying dubbing. This means that we will not
really be focused on creating specific flies but rather just
the dubbing that is applied to flies. Some of the
techniques we will be working on will be Direct Dubbing,
Dubbing Loops, Split Thread dubbing, and Dubbing Noodles
(Speed Dubbing).
