Synopsis of Class
|
Soft hackle (a.k.a wet flies) flies have been around
for centuries. Some of the first patterns developed
for fly fishing, these flies have stood the test of time and
are still very popular today. Soft hackle flies are
usually tied on smaller hooks and fished at a dead drift
just below the surface or you can add a little weight to get
them down closer to the bottom. There are a few soft
hackle patterns that are tied with and attempt to "match" a
certain food that trout might eat but generally they do not
specifically resemble any particular food. Rather they
have a design and profile that lends them to mimic many
different types of trout fodder. For the most part
they are simple flies to tie and great practice for tying on
smaller hooks with smaller material.

All tying material will be provided. You will need to bring the
following tying equipment.
- A vise
- A Bobbin

Tying Thread (for this class black, yellow, olive
and brown 8/0 or smaller)
- Head Cement
- Scissors
- Half hitch tools and/or Whip Finish Tool
