FlyMasters of Indianapolis
Advanced Fly Tying Class
Class: Tailwater Trout
Date/Time: June 10th, 2006, 10:00 am – 12:00 am
Maximum Size: 6
Instructor: Ian Anderson
Cost: $10.00
Synopsis of Class
These days the Indiana DNR is stocking more and more trout in the tailwaters of Indiana's reservoirs. Many people ask me what are good flies for these waters. Since many people have to drive a little to get to these tailwaters, most people can not get out when there is a hatch on. There are a number of patterns that work well in tailwaters anytime of the year. In this class we will be tying up three very effective scud patterns and one small crayfish pattern. The scud patterns are Fox's Sowbug, Fox's Worm Scud, and an Olive Scud. The crayfish is the Fox Crayfish. All of these patterns are fished nymph style and they are all productive in Indiana tailwaters.

All tying material will be provided. You will need to bring the following tying equipment.
  • A vise
  • A Bobbin
  • Tying Thread (for this class, black, brown and olive 6/0 or 8/0)
  • Head Cement
  • Scissors
  • Half hitch tools and/or Whip Finish Tool
