Instruction is one evening per week (7:00pm to 9:00pm) for five weeks.
|
Cost is $50.00 per student. Payment is made in advance
to confirm your reservation. Classes fill quickly and are reserved
on a first come first served basis.
The main focus of the course is on developing good hands-on techniques
as well as emphasis on proper fly proportions and aesthetics.
On completion of the class, the student should have the ability to tie
about 80% of the basic patterns shown in most fly-tying books.
Flies selected for the course include; rubber spiders, nymphs,
streamers, and dry flies. These will represent the typical patterns
needed to create similar types of flies. Approximately ten different
patterns will be demonstrated to the student during the course.
Each lesson will start with a general introduction to the fly
(identification, history, imitators, and how it is fished). Each
step on the tying sequence will be detailed by the instructor and its
construction fully explained. Then the students will tie the fly
repeating the instructor's steps. The instructor will oversee each
step of the process and critique accordingly.
Students will be required to provide their own equipment and materials
and it is suggested that they practice outside of the class (materials are
available in kit form from FlyMasters.
A list of recommended equipment and materials is also available at the
beginning of class.
The instructor is Ian Anderson, who is
a member of the Federation of
FlyFishermen and Trout Unlimited. He has been tying flies for many years and has
taught many people this fine art. He also teaches our advanced fly
tying classes.
