| Butts: |
The part of hair attached to the hide or the stem of a feather. |
| Tip: |
The end NOT attached to the hide or stem. |
| Down: |
Webby fibers at the butt end of a feather. |
| Palmering: |
Hackle tied in at the bend of a hook and wound the full
length of the hook shank.

| Wet Fly Base: |
Thread wrapped the entire length of the hook shank. |
| Collar: |
Hackle tied on the shank and wound very sparse - only two
or three turns and then tied back so the fibers flow back toward the
hook bend.

| Beard: |
Hackle fibers tied in under the shank about 1/4 inch from
the eye and not extending past the point of the hook.
|
| Dubbing: |
Fur or synthetics used primarily for the body of the fly. |
| Soft Loop: |
A method used to tie material into a hook. |
| Parachute: |
Hackle wound around a wing so that it lies parallel to
and above the fly body.
