Hook: Mustad 3906B, Size 12
Thread: Black 6/0 or 8/0
Tail: Peacock sword
Rib: Oval silver tinsel (fine)
Body: Peacock herl
Wingcase: Wood duck flank, clipped short
Hackle: Furnace, Sparse

Tying Instructions
Step 1: Mount the hook in the vise and attach the thread to hook using a jam knot.  Start thread 1/8th from the eye and wrap back toward the bend, stopping over the barb.
Step 2: Select three peacock sword fibers.   The fibers should be ˝ the shank length.   Even up the tips and cut off the white butt ends.   Tie the fibers in immediately above the barb.
Step 3: Tie in about an inch of the silver tinsel and lay it back over the tail.  Tie in three strands pf peacock herl and also lay them back over the tail.
Step 4: Wrap the three peacock herl stands toward the eye stopping 1/8th inch from the eye.   Trim the excess.
Step 5: Wrap the tinsel forward stopping at the same place you stopped the herl.  Trim the excess.
Step 6: Reverse the hook in the vise so that the barb it up.   Pull (or cut) a few barbules from the furnace hackle and even the tips.  Tie the barbules in where you stopped the other materials.   The "beard" should not extend past the hook point.
Step 7: Insert the hook in the vise right side up.   Select a Wood duck flank and clip off the fluffy fiber.   Place the flank on top of the hook and tie it down.   Clip the excess from over the eye and then clip the other end.
Step 8: Whip finish and cement the head.
