Synopsis of Class
|
The time will soon be on us where the ponds and rivers will
no longer have any ice on them and the waters will warm up.
One of the first warmwater species fly fisherman target in
the late winter is bluegills an crappie. The crappie
will being to spawn as soon as the ice is out and the
bluegill will seek out shallow water as the sun starts to
warm things up. Small nymphs are great for bluegill
and minnow patterns are great for crappie. In this
class we will be tying up some of each. Some of these
patterns are used during the normal season for bluegill,
crappie, bass and trout as well.
Normally, all of these patterns are finished off with some
form of epoxy on the back or the head. For this class
we will be experimenting with something new. We will
be using a new product that just came on the market this
past fall called Tuffleye
made by Wet A Hook Technologies. The compound can be
applied just like regular epoxy and then you shine a special
light on it to cure it. The compound will cure in
about 5 seconds and is harder than epoxy. It also will
not yellow like epoxy does over time. Should be a fun
class just tying the flies themselves and even better trying
this new material!
