Synopsis of Class
|
It is currently spring and the trout (and smallmouth) will
be hitting all kinds of hatching insects as the waters warm
up. However, before you know it we will be into the
dog days of summer where not too many insects are hatching
and you will be looking for something else to cast to the
fish. Often overlooked for the more ardent "match the
hatch" folks, terrestrials insects are a staple in the
summer diets of fish. Terrestrials are simply insects,
and spiders, that do not live in or on the water but rather
on land. Examples of terrestrial insects that fish
love are beetles, dragon flies, damsel flies, moths, bees,
flies, spiders, ants, grasshoppers and crickets. All
of these come in many shapes and sizes. Often you can
get wary fish to chase a big meaty terrestrial that won't
budge not anything else.
It is always a good idea to have a few terrestrial flies in
your box. During the summer time, having different
sizes and colors can make the differeance to a successful
outing. We will be tying three basic patterns in this
class that are vary easy to tie in multipple colors.
The following are the
flies you will tie in this class.
