Synopsis of Class
|
Summer is a great time for fishing for Smallmouth Bass.
Warm summer days and long evenings are what we dream of all
winter. One of the great things about summer smallie
fishing is the fact you can catch them on topwater,
streamers, nymphs, crawdads, and sculpins. There are
lots of great patterns available for smallmouth and many
that are time tested. However, you don't see too many
people tying and fishing tube flies for smallmouth.
Tube flies are a technique of fly tying where the majority
of the fly is tied on a tube instead of a hook. The
leader is passed through the tube and tied to a hook that is
kept in place against the fly by another small piece of
tubing. One of the big advantages of this setup is
that when a fish is hooked the fly detaches from the hook
and slides up the leader and out of the way. Thus the
flies last longer.
In this class we will be tying four different tube fly patterns
for smallmouth. The following are the flies you will tie.
All are easy to tie and one, the Convertible Tube Fly, even
allows you to mix and match pieces to make all kinds of
patterns.
