The Only Constant in The
Universe
Editors Corner
Ian Anderson
Fly Tier and Webmaster
It is said there are no constants in the Universe.
Everything is changing one way or another. But there
is one constant; it is change itself. Since the
universe is fly fishing, or should be, this constant applies
to this aspect of life as well.
Things are always changing and at FlyMasters we are changing
as well. Many have commented in the past few months on
the great addition of Charlie Barnard and Gary Griffith to
the staff at FlyMasters. We have added features here
at the shop and taken away some. The addition of
e-commerce on our web site has been a welcome change.
Soon you will not have to come to FlyMasters to get your fly
fishing supplies, we'll deliver to you [but we would miss
seeing you]. We are continuing many great schools,
clinics and classes this coming year and expanding on
others. We are adding a few new services as well;
think free fly tying.
All of this would be for nothing is the fly fishing products
we carry did not change as well. Existing companies
are coming out with new gear this year. Scott
has a new Bluegill rod, Winston is expanding it's BII MX
line of rods, Ross has a number of new reels and lots of new
rods, and Fishpond has more innovative gear than you can
think of.
In addition to the products lines we currently carry we are
bringing in new products that you can only get at
FlyMasters. Hardy and Greys are now distributed in the
US and here in the Midwest you can only get them at
FlyMasters. Hardy is well know for their excellent
rods and reels and we have a complete line. Greys is
less known here in the US but that won't be the case for
long. Excellent rods and reels for their price.
They will soon take over the mid-range rods and reels.
We also carry temple Fork rods now. The casting for
Recovery and Project Healing Waters rods are great rods and
for each on sold TFO will donate $25.00 to the respective
program. Buying a nice fly rod and helping other, nice
combination.
So even though the economy might look bad and winter is
weighing down your spirits, always remember - things will
change. Stop by the shop to see some of the great
changes and pick up your spirits this winter. You'll
be glad you did.
Be Well,
Ian

FlyMasters Magazine If
you have not heard about our first publication you need to
come by the shop and heck this out. We have produced a

great information. Listings of our schools, classes
and clinics complete with event dates for the entire year.
There are articles from Jason Borger, Kevin Morlock, Jerry
Darkes and more covering information from fishing in
Indiana, Michigan, Steelhead fishing, double hauling
and more. Listing of the various trips we will be
doing this year, including three new trips for 2009.
Believe it or not there are even coupons for savings on
classes, reels and tying equipment. Best of all, this
publication is completely free! Stop by today and pick
one up, you'll be glad you did.
Hardy and Greys Come to The U.S.Most fly fishermen
and women have heard of Hardy Reels. The men are
certainly aware of the Hardy Angle (and the reel by that
name). Well for a long time it was difficult for folks
in the US to get a hold of hardy rods and reels. Not
any longer. Hardy has their own US distribution now.
FlyMasters now carries, and has in stock, all Hardy Reels
and Rods. What most people do not know if that the Greys company is part of House of Hardy and is also
available here in the US. Greys may be shorter on
price than the Hardy equipment but not on quality. The
Greys rods are something you have to cast to believe.
We already have all of the Greys rods in stock and most of
the reels. Stop by the shop and cast one. It may
just end up the next rods you go fishing with.
FlyMasters Signature RodsFor 2009 we are proud to
introduce our own line of fly rods. The FlyMasters
rods are a G-Loomis blank and put together for us by the
Targus company. 2008 we brought in a
few Rods carrying our logo. Exceptional material and
quality craftsmanship make these great rods for any fishing.
We have weights for small streams trout and fun bluegill
fishing as well as tough rods for steelhead and salmon.
Stop by and cast a FlyMasters rod this week. You can't
get them anywhere else!
Gary Kreb's Popper Jig ClassOne of Indiana's own,
Gary Kreb's, has developed a great set up cutting jigs for
cylinder foam for popper flies. Gary has been fishing
for smallmouth and largemouth bass here in Indiana for
years as well as for Snook and Tarpon in Florida. A
big fan of topwater popper flies and the explosive strike is
what drove Gary to develop these jigs. Gary wanted a
way to consistently tie up quick, easy, good looking and
effective poppers. Fortunately for us, he will be at
FlyMasters on the 21st of
February to show us how to use these simple jigs to make
a wide variety of flies. Mark your calendar and come
out on the 21st. It will make summer fishing all the
better.
