Ascension Bay Bonefish Club 2009 |
Our annual pilgrimage to the Ascension Bay
Bonefish Club was a wonderful success this year.
The bonefish were outstanding this year not only in size but
in numbers caught. Even our customers
that are new to saltwater fly fishing have been wading the
flats and got many shots at bonefish and many hook ups.
The permit fishing
was a bit tougher this year but permit were
caught. The Barracuda fishing was also very good and
many fisherman and women enjoyed catching them on the reef.
A number of Tarpon and Snook were taken as well as multiple shots at tarpon
this winter although they were not the primary fish people
were pursuing. The weather was warm and the fishing
great. We are already looking forward to next year!

Spring Steelhead - Ohio and Michigan |
The
time is upon us for spring steelhead. Most fly
fishermen and women already are aware of the great steelhead
fishing throughout the Great Lakes. The spring
spawning run ends up being the first outing of the year for
many fly fishermen. This year is shaping up to be a
great steelhead year. Reports from West Michigan and East
Ohio are all very good. Many have been catching
Steelhead all winter and
activity
has been increasing as the warm weather sticks around.
Whether you have been thinking of taking a trip to Ohio and
fishing for Lake Erie Steelhead or up the West Coast of Lake
Michigan for some of the big Steelhead in the Pere
Marquette, Muskegon or Manistee now is the time to go.
FlyMasters is working with
several guides to bring you the finest Steelhead fishing
anywhere in the Midwest. Call us today with any questions
and to book a trip you won't soon forget.
Don't forget, you can always book day outings with
FlyMasters to fish for smallmouth, wipers, white bass, brown
trout, rainbow trout, drum, and anything else that swims in
Indiana. Call us and will will show you just what kind
of great fly fishing is right out your back door!

A new trip for FlyMasters
this year; we will be heading up to Canada for Northern
Pike. We will be staying at
Camp
Anjigami in May in a great cabin on our own
private lake. We will mostly be fishing for Northern
but there will be opportunities for Brook trout as well as
Walleye. There will be four days of fishing and lots
of time to relax. For more details check out our
Pike fishing at Camp Anjigami page.
Another new trip for us this year, we will be taking adventuresome fly fishers up to
Beaver
Island Michigan (at the northern end of Lake Michigan) and
fish for three days for Carp. Vary similar to flats
fishing for bonefish you will be poling and walking the flat
in northern Lake Michigan and cast to 20 pound plus Carp.
Fly fishing for carp has been gaining in popularity over the
past 10 years and now is the time to get out and see what it
is all about. You will be surprised as to just how
challenging these fish can be to catch on a fly rod.
We have two groups going up in June for three days of great
fishing. Plus, Beaver Island is a great place to get
away from it all for a few days. Check out our
Beaver
Island page on our web site for the detail and then give us
a call to book your spot. This one is going fast.

Sylvania Wilderness Smallmouth |
We will be sending another group up to the Sylvania
Wilderness are this year for some great smallmouth
fishing. In the past we have done trips to this
area and gone the wilderness route; tents, portaging and
paddling. This year we will be taking it a little
easier and staying in a cabin on Crooked lake. We
will be fishing for five days in July which is one of
the best times for smallmouth in this area.
Crooked lake allows trolling motors, if you have one,
otherwise the local outfitter can supply us with canoes,
kayaks and boats. Reports from people last year
that their "arms ached" after a day of fishing for
smallmouth. Crooked lake also have a great
population of largemouth bass, Northern Pike and [big]
bluegill. We have already sold a few spots on this
trip and are certain it will go fast.

Trout Fishing in the Smokey Mountains |
Keep an eye
on our web site as things are added all the time. One
of the summer trips we are currently working on is a three
day trip down to the Smokey Mountains for some trout
fishing. We'll let you know when we get the details
worked out! |
