I found myself yesterday with something I haven't had since June 1994; free time. At first I did not know what to do with myself that I almost waisted the entire time thinking about what to do with this luxury. I did manage to snap out of it and decided to watch a video by A. K. Best that has been on my list of tying DVD for a while.
Tying Terrestrials, Caddis and Midges with A. K. Best is all about trout flies, which is not a bread and butter fly around central Indiana. However, this is a great DVD to own for two reasons. First, A. K. Best is a fantastic tier and just watching him and learning his techniques is fun and interesting. Second, the information his conveys about the flies he is tying and why he likes them will give you reason enough to always carry some of these patterns in your fly box.
In the end, it was the right decision to spend what little free time I had watching A. K. tie up these flies. I learned a few things, know some more patterns to take with me on my next outing to Brookville and mostly relaxed and enjoyed the show. Now I just have to find some more free time to watch it again.
